EcoVillage at Ithaca 08.05.2021

We all have heard the first Thanksgiving story of early colonial settlers who gave thanks for a bountiful harvest, joined at the table by their Indian neighbors. But is this myth or history? This year in honor of Thanksgiving, over Thanksgiving weekend, we are telling a different, harder, but more authentic story. It is not the story of celebration and abundant harvests, but instead one of injustice perpetrated by white settlers on Native peoples and the legacy that we all... need to face. Thrive is hosting a special interactive presentation in collaboration with the Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation (NOON) on the painful history of U.S. relations with Native Americans across the country called ‘Witness to Injustice.’ We offer this presentation as an opportunity to hear from our Native American neighbors, to listen to their story rather than tell it for them, and begin to foster respect and understanding of the brutal history Native peoples have suffered and how they have endured in spite of it. BE AWARE: The deadline for registration is 11:59 pm on Thurs, Nov 26th, Thanksgiving Day. Participation is limited to 40 people, so please don’t wait to sign up.
