There are numerous trees and power lines down in the area please use caution while traveling. Reminder to treat any intersection without power as a four way stop

Eden Fire Department #1 05.04.2021

This post is to serve as a reminder as we begin our spring clean ups. Per the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, residential brush burning is prohibited in New York State from March 16 Through May 14. This means NO burning of trees or brush during this time. You MAY have small contained campfires but should always exercise caution to ensure the fire doesn't catch anything else on fire. Additionally, burning of leaves and garbage is prohibited year round.... For more information on the ban, visit here: https://www.dec.ny.gov/press/119841.html

Members would like to thank the GLP and Elementary schools for allowing us to give a presentation in the schools this past week as we target the younger kids; to let them see there’s nothing to be afraid of and that we’re there to help them and their family. A fire in the home is a terrifying experience for anyone, but it may be compounded for youngsters when they see the firefighter, face hidden by mask and helmet, emitting rattling, breathing sounds, and using a powerful he...adlight beam, coming to the rescue in a "Darth Vader" type of mask. According to statistics provided by the U.S. Fire Marshal’s office, "approximately 13.1 percent of all residential fire deaths between 2008 and 2010 took the lives of children under the age of nine." Just how many of this 13.1 percent died because they were more afraid of, and consequently hid from, the firefighters trying to save them than of the fire itself is unknown. If only one death occurred for this reason it represents one too many. Children are frequently fire victims. Confused and frightened, they instinctively try to hide from the smoke and flames. This is why when firefighters are presented with an opportunity to educate young children about where one of the real dangers of house fires exists, we pack up our gear and head out to the schools to make sure none of the young children in our respective coverage area falls into that needless statistical category. The law requires fire drills in our schools -- but fire drills in the homes are even more essential. Along with home fire drills, parents need to find times to introduce children to firefighters. Let the child see the firefighter in full gear.

On this night...19 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. #NeverForget

Dear Neighbor, The Eden Fire Department hopes that you and your family are well during these unprecedented times. We recently sent out our annual fund drive letter and appreciate the support we have received so far. This year our Annual Fund Drive is different due to COVID-19. Included in your mailing was an addressed envelope for you to return your contribution. This year we will NOT be going door to door for the safety of all involved. We thank you in advance for your... understanding and as always your amazing support! If you are looking for something to do with the additional free time that you may be experiencing, have you considered giving back to our community? We are always looking for members to assist us in our mission of keeping this great town and it's surrounding communities safe. If interested you can inquire more by messaging us on Facebook, calling us at 992-4062, or by stopping by the hall on any Monday night.

Dear Eden Community, This is an unprecedented time. Many things have changed due to COVID-19. School buildings are closed, and students are learning via the internet. Non-essential workers are laid off or working from home. Social distancing is in effect throughout the country. Citizens both young and old are experiencing hardship in this unprecedented time. Community members are hurting emotionally and financially. One thing that has not changed, is that your emergency... service organizations are now, and will always be, ready to serve the Eden Community when we are called. We are dedicated to serving the Town of Eden and it's surrounding communities. With that in mind, the Eden Fire Department has postponed our annual fund drive. You, the Eden Community, have supported us for many years. At this time, we would like to thank you for all of your support! When we are all ready, emotionally and financially, we will re-visit our Fund Drive. Please know that we will be there for you, Eden and surrounding communities, no matter the situation, to serve you when the call comes in. Last but not least, remember in an emergency to dial 9-1-1 and test your smoke detectors. Sincerely, The Members of the Eden Fire Department

On Sunday, Eden firefighters responded to 2 possible kitchen fires in town. Thankfully, both incidents were contained to the stove/oven and no one was injured. The CDC has continued to put protocols in place to keep both firefighters and the town residents safe. When responding to calls you will see us now wearing different PPE, such as surgical masks. If we ask you to stand farther away or outside of your residence please do not be offended. This is an evolving situation that we are all working through together. By following these procedures it will work to keep us all safe so we can continue to respond to any and all emergencies. We thank you for your cooperation in advance.
