Our new location at the Hauptman Woodward Medical Research Institute will house new laboratories and offices dedicated to advancing our CytoComm cell research. Digital Health: My article, Digital Health Heading Toward Implantable Sensors, was published in the trade publication Start-Up on April 20th, and is available a...t the magazine's website (www.pharmamedtechbi.com/publications/start-up). For the article I spoke with the CEOs of several young companies developing what could be the next wave of sensors in medicine. The story examines technology from the following companies: Profusa Inc., which has created tiny injectable biosensors designed to detect and read the body’s chemistry, which could be used to treat a variety of conditions. GlySens Inc., developing an implantable glucose sensor for diabetics that could stay in the body a year or more. Efferent Labs, Inc. developing a unique sensor that utilizes living cells to create a biosensor to assess cellular function in vivo. The device could help patients with a variety of chronic conditions. Executive Summary Although wearable devices are only just beginning to trend in digital health, a newer, more sophisticated technology is starting to develop. Implantable sensors designed to measure in vivo functions could become a transformative technology in a way that wearable devices cannot.
