MARCH 23 Great Peace! Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Ps. 119:165 Great Peace means that amidst the storms and tempests of this life there is a perfect calm in the hearts and the minds of those who not only do the will of God, but love to do it. These are at peace with God, by the blood of reconciliation; at peace with themselves, by the answer of a good conscience, and by the subjection of those desires which war against the soul...Continue reading

OCTOBER 12 What’s Past Is Prologue! That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. Ec 3:15 This phrase was originally used in William Shakespeare’s play; The Tempest as Antonio uses it to suggest that all which has happened before that time has led Sebastian and himself to this opportunity to do what they are about to do. Before Shakespeare there was Solomon, the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusa...Continue reading

OCTOBER 3-11 We Need An Apocalypse! The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Revelation 1:1 Notice that the subject-matter of the Book of Revelation is: things which should shortly come to pass; not the things which had already past which would make this book history and not prophecy, but things which should certa...Continue reading

OCTOBER 1-2 Nothing Is Everything! Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Php 4:6 In the preceding chapter Paul spoke of their conversation as being from heaven and if it was their desire to be there, they should not hold on to anything earthly. He adds particular exhortations and the first is that nothing should hinder their joy, secondly, to behave themselves moderately before all m...Continue reading

SEPTEMBER 26-29 The Color Purple! And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. Ac 16:14 The Color Purple had great significance in ancient times. It signified stateliness, prominence, eminence, notoriety which gave those who wore in it a sense of celebrity. Purple cloth was used in the furnishings of the tabernacle,...Continue reading

SEPTEMBER 22 How The Wall Is Built! [Selflessness] So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days. Nehemiah 6:15 These words of Nehemiah constitute a declaration of success. You can almost hear his voice vibrant with triumph and joy. A mere fifty two days earlier anyone would have been hard-pressed to imagine that such an undertaking was possible. Not only was the wall in such ruin and desolation, but the people were in a sim...Continue reading

SEPTEMBER 21 How The Wall Is Built! So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days. Nehemiah 6:15 When Nehemiah first heard the news of the suffering of his countrymen he was a member of the royal court living in the king's palace. He was one of the cup-bearers of King Artaxerxes, a position of great honor and advantage in the Persian court, because it gave him the privilege of being in the king's presen...ce on a daily basis. As the cup bearer the times of his attendance were always when the king was in a good mood for it was when the king was making his heart merry with the wine Nehemiah served him. This gave him the opportunity to gain the kings favor making it easier for him to obtain any petition which he should make to him. The report of the desolation prevalent in Jerusalem and the reproach inflicted upon his people moved Nehemiah to seek God for guidance. He may have been in a foreign land but he remained servant to Jehovah otherwise he would not have remembered the promise God made to Moses of restoration upon repentance. (v.8-9 - Deut. 4:29-31) As we observe the state of our church today we need to take on the spirit of Nehemiah and seek the Lord to guide us that we might wisely rebuild the wall of holiness that has seemingly been breached. We know that there will be times of internal strife but it would be much easier to deal with if we did not allow the enemy to invade our sanctuaries with the worldliness that permeates the pew and the pulpit. We need to rebuild the walls that there may be a refuge for our families, friends and the saints at large to have a respite from the daily battle of life itself. Do you recognize the need for major construction or are you content with the condition of our worship. Each of us has a part to play in the strengthening of the foundations of holiness for we know that if the foundations be destroyed there shall be no place for the righteous. God is seeking some wall-building saints who know the value of security and the need for a place of Sabbath rest. The time will come when we will need to stand ye in the holy place. Where is that? SEPTEMBER 15 Remaining Remnant! But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Romans 11:4 Things are often much better with the God’s church than a lot of wise and good men think they are and they are ready to give up all for lost, when it is not so because God still has a Remaining Remnant. Elijah felt abandoned and alone having eradicated most of the prophets of ...Continue reading

SEPTEMBER 10 Do You Hear What I See! And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.. Acts 9:7 The men were stupefied, hearing a voice but were not able to distinguish the words spoken by a small, still voice addressed to Saul alone. What must have been a thunderous sound must have been heard by all as Paul says in Acts 22:9, They that were with me saw the light and were afraid, but they heard not the voice of him that spake to ...Continue reading

SEPTEMBER 6 Do The Best You Can! If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Romans 12:18 Some people are just hard to get along with, but do the best you can. I know it isn’t easy given the fact that some people are just mean, but do the best you can. It is obvious to me in reading Paul’s letter to the Romans that he understands the difficulties Christians experience. He says: if it be possible... If it can be done; this expression i...Continue reading

SEPTEMBER 1 Only Human! Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. James 5:17 There is no Biblical personage more dynamic or distinctive than Elijah the Tishbite whose origin has been enveloped in perfect obscurity. There has been much speculation as to who he was with regard to his daring and heroic acts and supernatural achievements. T...Continue reading
