As always, this is a time for listening, reflection, educating ourselves, and action. Please see our website, below, where you will find a compilation of resources we find crucial, as we listen to the voices of Black Americans and reflect deeply on our impact of perpetuating unjust systems. #socialjustice #racialequity #mentalhealth

We acknowledge and actively witness the severe mental health impact of oppression and racism on people's lives - fear, anger, hopelessness, dissociation, guilt, shame - all innate reactions to the trauma of marginalization, disenfranchisement, and historical enslavement. Without actively working towards dismantling systems of oppression, mental health counseling can only act as a band-aid, at the very best, or salt, at the very worst, to a wound that needs amputation. Our m...ission at Embodied Mind NYC is dedicated to tending to the impact and fallout of trauma on people's lives. Trauma impacts individuals, families, societies, and institutions in a myriad of ways. As we witness the current events and the protests of George Floyd being murdered by a police officer, society is once again confronted with the immense pain and trauma that overt and structural racism has and continues to perpetuate in the lives of people of color, particularly in the Black community. As dedicated, trauma-informed mental health professionals, we are committed to continuing to dismantle our own racism and actively work towards developing an anti-racist worldview, through race cacusing and mental health trainings that target racism in our profession. We also acknowledge that there is so much more to do. This work never ends. We call on all mental healthcare professionals to commit themselves to anti-racist training as a mandatory component of their continuing education. There is no true mental health and wellness without true social justice. As always, this is a time for listening, reflection, educating ourselves, and action. Please see our website, where you will find a compilation of resources we find crucial, as we listen to the voices of Black Americans and reflect deeply on our impact of perpetuating unjust systems.
