Ocean Network Express said Wednesday the number of lost or damaged containers from a vessel en route to the Port of Long Beach, California, could exceed 1,900. According to a container incident online information center, the ONE Apus was en route from Yantian, China, to Long Beach at about 11:15 p.m. Monday when it encountered a violet storm cell producing gale-force winds and large swells, which caused the ONE Apus to roll heavily, resulting in the dislodging of the lost containers approximately 1,600 nautical miles northwest of Hawaii. Any EMO Trans customers affected by this situation will be contacted directly with more information.

According to the Philippine Ports Authority, some ports are preparing to restart operations after Typhoon Ulysses' onslaught in the area until early yesterday morning. Other ports must wait until the storm warning signal number changes or the roads are cleared of landslides. Our thoughts are with our customers, colleagues, and friends in the Philippines as they recover from this storm.
EMO Trans is very pleased to announce a new business vertical centered on the U.S. government. Baltimore Branch Manager Stephen Schein says, "Since becoming the Branch Manager for the Baltimore office, one of my chief goals has been to develop a vertical that would tap into shipping and logistics services paid for by federal spending. In 2019, federal contract spending was $597 billion, up from $442 billion in 2015. This money is allocated across 92 agencies and departments ...in 20 purchasing categories. Tangible goods, such as sustainment supplies, electronics, and clothing, saw the greatest increases in this period. The market for our services is large and growing. The U.S. is decommissioning its fighting footprint around the world, but is still supporting a very large civilian and military presence. Additionally, foreign governments buy vast amounts of supplies from U.S. suppliers via Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) programs." To read more about EMO Trans' strategy in this area, check out the September edition of EMO Trans News. We're excited about the growth potential of a government vertical! https://mailchi.mp/emotrans/tj3020e8fs-686002

After 12 years with EMO Trans, Regional Project Manager Jim DeLoach recently retired and is looking forward to getting into the mud on the Georgia coast one of his favorite pastimes that he hopes to enjoy as often as possible. The Atlanta office recently celebrated this new chapter with him! Jim says that he will miss EMO Trans’ people, their positive attitude, and the success that comes with having a great team. It’s a well-used but true statement that quality organizat...ions start with quality individuals, and I think EMO has definitely been very skilled at choosing good people. It has been a pleasure to interact with and be a part of the teams at EMO Trans, he says. I’ll probably also miss the day-to-day action of international forwarding, with its surprises and challenges. Jim and his wife plan to spend time on Cumberland Island one of Georgia’s barrier islands and a national park area where they have vacationed for many years. He hopes to contribute to conservation efforts that keep the island pristine and relatively undeveloped. They also plan to spend more time traveling, reading, biking, and spending time with their grown children. Congratulations on your retirement, Jim, and may you enjoy life to the fullest!
