Lola likes Raspberry Iced Tea from the Casino Cafe but she brings her own reusable straws. The all day breakfast over there gets her every time. She also can't wait until the Silver Bells Cafe opens up on Main Street in Salamanca so she can try one of them Texas Hots they are about to be serving up. Lola will just say, hold the onions if they are in that special sauce because onions aren't good for doggos. Lola is a young gal, about a year and a half old. She is a Cattle D...og. She is looking for an active buddy due to her breed. She will work for her food and her keep. She is a herder by nature. Breed experience is a bonus. Lola likes all the attention to herself so a single doggo home is what suits her. Also by nature she is a small animal chaser including cats. This gal is petite. She is 35 lbs and has a nice thick coat. She has a lot to give. Please consider giving her a chance. Apply to adopt at empirerescue.org.

This is Honey. Honey is a 10 month old bloodhound/ black lab mix. She needs a home where her owners are going to let her sleep in her bed. She needs that bonding at nighttime. She does well with other dogs, kids, and doesn’t seem to mind cats. Honey is a big puppy. She acts like a puppy but she’s a big dog and I like to say she’s all legs. She’s like a teenage boy with them. It’s hilarious and I love it. She has typical puppy issues with chewing and her energy but that is ...all workable and will go away with time. Honey is completely housebroken and we are working on getting her used to being in a crate. She is a great dog who deserves a family who will understand that she is just a puppy and will be willing to give her love and guidence. She will make an amazing companion. To apply for this amazing dog, go to empirerescue.org and fill out an application.

A condition where the soft tissues in a cat's mouth become irritated and inflamed. In a cat's mouth, these tissues include the gums, cheeks and tongue. The inflammation can become so severe that cats will not eat. Treatment options are available, and the prognosis is positive for cats suffering from stomatitis.... SYMPTOMS AND TYPES Common symptoms or signs of stomatitis in cats can include: * Pain * Bad breath * Ulcerated tissues * Extensive teeth plaque * Excessive drooling or saliva * Fluid buildup in the gums * Inappetence (lack of appetite) * Weight loss The primary types of inflammation are: 1. Ulcerative Stomatitis: This condition occurs when a significant amount of gum tissue is lost in a cat's mouth, and it is frequently accompanied by inflammation of the oral tissues. 2. Oral Eosinophilic Granuloma: This condition occurs when there is a mass or growth in or near the cat's mouth, especially on the lips. 3. Gingival Hyperplasia: This condition occurs when gum tissue increases and may grow over teeth. CAUSE In kittens, inflammation can occur as teeth become overcrowded in the mouth. Several metabolic disorders are also known to cause stomatitis in cats, including an abnormal amount of waste products in the bloodstream, inflammation of blood vessels in the mouth (common with diabetes), lymphoma and inadequate levels of the hormone parathyroid. Infectious diseases and injuries to the mouth can also cause the inflammation. There may be an association between the development of stomatitis in cats and feline calicu virus. Most cats with stomatitis are carriers of the chronic form of this disease. Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) may also play a role. DIAGNOSIS A veterinarian will examine your cat's mouth for lesions, teeth decay, plaque and other noticeable signs that may be causing the inflammation. In addition, laboratory blood work will typically be done to rule out any other underlying medical condition for the inflammation. TREATMENT Cleaning the mouth and preventing the buildup of plaque is the most effective management of this disease. In some cases, cat antibiotics have been proven effective in reducing inflammation of a cat's oral cavity. In severe cases, teeth will need to be surgically removed to reduce the inflammation. It may seem drastic to extract a cat’s teeth, but it can be very effective in eliminating the inflammation and pain. Most cats return to eating the same cat food they ate before surgery. There are several types of prescription pet medication including pain or anti-inflammatory control and antibiotics, that can be effective at reducing the cat’s discomfort. However, these are only management tools and, in most cases, do not resolve the symptoms fully. PREVENTION To prevent stomatitis in cats, your veterinarian may recommend that you rinse or brush your cat's mouth. There are also some topical ointments that can be used to reduce or prevent inflammation of the cat's gums.

You have probably noticed a thick, slimy residue on your dog's food and water bowls when you pick them up to wash or refill them. The technical name for this slime is biofilm. Your dog's mouth and tongue contain bacteria that bind together and stick to the surface of a bowl after he has had his dog food and licked it. There are numerous microbial infections caused by this nasty slime including urinary tract infections and bladder infections! Many pet parents, myself included,... are continuing to refill the water bowl over and over. We suggest you take the bowls to the bath tub and use white vinegar and water mixed 50/50. Use a brush that you only use for the dogs bowls. The dollar store has some very inexpensive brushes. Hopefully your pup will enjoy a fresh bowl with every meal. The National Sanitation Foundation ranked dog bowls as the fourth most germ-filled place in the home, after dish sponges and the kitchen sink. Bacteria like salmonella and E. coli are commonly found in dog bowls, as well as watering bowls, which can also contain algae and mold. These things not only affect pet health, but they can also make your human family members sick, too. Please use your tub and not your sink or dishwasher.
