The Merrick Chamber of Commerce has been a good friend and supporter of the Merrick FD and at the forefront of community events. This year many events sponsored by the chamber were cancelled. Those events raised money to provide holiday lights throughout the business districts of Merrick. This year, those holiday lights may not shine without the necessary funds to pay for them. Please consider a donation to light up our community this upcoming holiday season. Use the link below to make your donation.

On September 30, 2020 at approximately 7:16 PM, the Merrick Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on Clubhouse Rd & Alexis Rd. Upon arrival the members were met with a fully involved house with an extreme volume of fire. The volunteers firefighters made an aggressive attempt to extinguish the fire from the inside. However, due to structural instability caused by the fire, the firefighters were ordered by the Chief to back out of the house. Firefighters... eventually were able to extinguish the fire. Several surrounding towns also responded to assist in the efforts. No injuries were reported and the Nassau County Fire Marshall is investigating to determine the cause of the fire. A special thank you to the members of the Empire Hose Company 3 Ladies Auxiliary, the Empire Hose Company 3 Junior Firefighters and other family and friends that assisted in distributing cold refreshments to the volunteer firefighters. The attached video was taken by K2M photography. During this video you will hear the sounds of the fire engine air horns. That is the signal to alert the interior firefighters to evacuate. On July 3rd at approximately 10:00 P.M., the Merrick Fire Department was alerted for a fire at the Town of Hempstead Sanitation Facility on Merrick Rd. First arriving, Chief Ronnie Gies, transmitted a working fire at the rear transfer station and requested assistance from surrounding towns due the extremely large volume of fire. Low water pressure from the hydrants on the property hampered the efforts of the volunteer firefighters to gain control of the fire which prompted a... request to New York American Water to raise the water pressure in the area. Due to the water restrictions, a water relay was instituted from hydrants on nearby local streets. It took nearly an hour and a half to gain control and extinguish the fire. No injuries to were reported. Photo Credit: K2M Photography Link for more photo: https://www.k2mphotography.com//Merri/Merrick-Road-7-3-20/
