Today, the United States of America is recognizing the peaceful transfer of power from one presidential administration to another. Millions of people voted across the country, their votes were counted (and recounted!) and Joe Biden beat Donald Trump both in absolute numbers and in the ElectoralCollege. This sort of election is what most Americans think of when they think of "democracy" but we hope the USA becomes more like Beaston and celebrates other forms of democracy as w...ell. Here in Beaston, we also hold elections for our leaders (and impeachthem when they misbehave) but we also voted on who should control our Phantastic Noodler. Through a public vote, the town decided that it shouldn't be owned by one Okapi, but it should be shared as a public good. Our friends over at Bookshop Santa Cruz in California will soon vote on whether to form a Union, so that workers have more power to make decisions and negotiate for better conditions and wages.
