MISCONCEPTION MONDAY Kegels are a popular "search" item for people with pelvic floor dysfunction. Unfortunately, they're not always the best treatment approach, or even indicated for certain conditions. Why wouldn't you kegel?... You have pain. Oftentimes if there is pain in the pelvic floor, it's due to "overactivity" in the muscles, so contracting (or performing a kegel) is actually contraindicated for initial treatment. You have leakage. Sometimes leakage is also a result of overactivity or poor coordination of the pelvic floor muscles. Or, perhaps can be addressed with behavioral modifications and considerations!
