Winter is hitting us hard here in Western New York! Keep your home warmer AND cut down on heating costs by following these 5 simple tips: Check your furnace filter right now. It probably needs to be changed if you haven't touched it in a couple of months. (Probably filthy, too) Reverse your ceiling fans. This directs warm air downward where you need it most.... Check your ventilation ducts for blockers. A surprising amount of homeowners have furniture covering their ventilation ducts, especially if they are along the baseboard. (This is also a fire hazard!) Try applying plastic or shrink-wrap on your windows. This helps prevent warm air from completely escaping out your windows. Close doors to unused rooms and close the vents in those rooms. This will help direct heat to the rooms that really matter. Note: Don't let unused rooms get TOO cold (under 40 degrees) so that you're preventing the possibility of pipes freezing. Try these tips today for a comfier home that doesn't break the bank every month.
