Susan Kare in her office at Apple in 1984. Kare is the artist and graphic designer who designed many of the fonts, icons and images for Apple, NeXT, Microsoft and IBM. Her contribution and iconic designs are instantly recognizable to anyone who has ever used a computer.

Sylvia Harris (1953-2011) was a graphic designer and a pioneer of social impact design. Harris attended school during desegregation in Richmond, Virginia and th...e experience impressed upon her the direct effect of social systems. Harris' career included groundbreaking work for Citibank and the 2000 census; as well as educating and mentoring students at Yale, the School of Visual Arts, Cooper Union, and Purchase College.
