Nichiren Daishonin inscribed Fudo Myo on the right side (as one is facing looking) of calligraphic mandala to represent the teaching of Shoji Soku Nehan - - meaning "samsara is itself nirvana." He used the Bija Sanskrit character - - literally "Seed Syllable" which is is used as a metaphor to represent a complex teaching in one character. When looking at the calligraphic mandala, the three largest representations are in order of size: Centered: Namu Myoho Renge Kyo, ...Right Side: Fudo Myo as "Shoji Soku Nehan" and Left side: Aizen Myo as Bono Soku Bodai (defilements are themselves awakening) From Rev Ryuei Michael McCormick's forth-coming book "A Nichiren Shu Buddhist Dictionary:" Achalanatha Vidyaraja: (S. Acalantha Vidyrja; J. Fud My; ) The Sansksrit name Acalantha Vidyrja means Immovable Protector Knowledge King. He personifies the power of the buddhas to vanquish blind craving and is a dharmapala, a type of guardian deity of esoteric Buddhism. As such, he is one of the vidyaraja, a king of mystic knowledge. Achalanatha Vidyaraja is considered a wrathful form or manifestation of Mahavairochana Buddha, who personifies the Dharma-body of the Buddha. He is also the chief of a group of five or eight kings of mystic knowledge in esoteric Buddhism. He is very popular in Japan as a destroyer of demons, black magic, sickness, and all forms of evil. He is also revered in Japan as the protector of the nation. According to some interpretations he represents the transmutation of the sufferings of birth and death into the bliss of nirvana, and therefore represents the teaching that samsara is itself nirvana. Achalanatha Vidyaraja is depicted surrounded by flames that consume all karmic obstacles. His sword of wisdom cuts through the three poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion. He uses his lasso to bind the forces of evil and to catch or draw near those in need of self-control and discipline. The rock he sits on represents his overcoming of the hindrances to awakening, but also his immovable determination to liberate all sentient beings. Nichiren Shonin had visions of Achalanatha Vidyaraja and Raga Vidyaraja. On New Year’s Day of 1254 he felt the presence of Raga Vidyaraja and then had a vision of him. From January 15 through January 17, Achalanatha Vidyaraja appeared in the same way. The drawings he made of his visions are kept at the Myohonji Temple (J. Myhonji) in Hota. Nichiren Shonin wrote of these visions in his Fud-Aizen Kanken-ki (Record of Seeing Fud and Aizen My) (WNS5, p. 1) Achalanatha Vidyaraja and Raga Vidyaraja are both represented on the Great Mandala of Invoking the Ten Realms by their respective seed syllables, that embody their essence. In this case, the seed syllables are written in the Siddham script that is used for writing Sanskrit. Achalantha Vidyrja appears as the syllable vam. These are the only two names to appear as a seed syllables on the Great Mandala.
Today, we celebrate Juneteenth Day! Juneteenth, June 19th, marks the day in 1865 that chattel slavery finally ended in the United States, when the Union Army marched onto plantations in the final state (Texas) to free the last people held in bondage there, 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. May we all celebrate the liberation of all sentient beings through the teachings of the Lotus Sutra and the Wonderful Dharma of the Eternal Buddha! ... Shoeizan Enkyoji Temple celebrates the inherent equality and freedom of all sentient beings :) Namu Myoho Renge Kyo!

Hello Sangha! I would like to have a Sangha wide meeting at our normal Service time (Messenger Group Video Chat) to discuss as a community what we would like to do about scheduling the re-opening of the Temple. Due to the easing of restrictions in WNY, Churches are able to open with proper measures and I feel we should discuss as a community what methods we should use and how we will accomplish this noble goal. I would like to maximize attendees today by doing it @ 11am rathe...r than broadcast today. I am excited that soon we will be able to study and practice together again in person. Namu Myoho Renge Kyo!!! With Deepest Gassho, Shami Kanyu Kroll Shoeizan Enkyoji Buddist Temple of Rochester
