SSVF Employee Spotlight! Oscar served in the Army from 2011 - 2016 as a Combat Engineer. He deployed to Afghanistan with the 41st Engineer Company based out of Fort Riley, KS. He was responsible for scanning the roads for buried IEDs. He truly loves helping veterans because he feels like he can understand a lot of their struggles. He’s incredibly passionate about this role because he wants to be a part of making a difference for veterans in our community. Since he’s come aboard the SSVF team in October 2019, he’s helped 12 veterans find permanent housing. Oscar is extremely dedicated to his work and has grown to be such a crucial part of this team. Our team at SSVF looks forward to watching Oscar continue to grow as an important community advocate and helping professional.

Beginning Monday, March 22, 2021, Northport VAMC will be hosting a walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic. The walk-in clinic will be open Monday thru Friday, from 8:00am to 2:00pm, located at Northport VA Medical Center, 79 Middleville Road, Northport New York 11768. Veterans must be eligible for and enrolled in VA healthcare, and receive health care at Northport VAMC. No appointment is necessary.

April is celebrated nationwide as the Month of the Military Child. To celebrate the children of veterans and service members across NYS the NYS Division of Veteran Services will be offering virtual programs designed with military families in mind. These special events are being offered free of charge but registration is required! The fifth and final event in this series of virtual programs will be held May 1 at 2pm. Please read below for more information on meeting the otters at the Wild Center!

Attention Veterans! You still have time to get a Covid-19 Vaccine at the VA in Northport. The walk in clinic will be offering the vaccines from today until Friday 3/19/21 from 9am to 1pm. Please read below for more information!

SSVF Employee Spotlight! The SSVF program was illuminated when Jessica Martin joined the team in 2019. Bringing her Masters in Social Work, experience and her fresh innovative housing ideas to our counties veterans, Jessica has been pivotal to the success of the team’s ability to house veterans. 2020’s pandemic hit the SSVF program with new challenges- and it was Jessica who rose to those challenges! In response to the growing need, the VA added a special position to the SSV...F program, a Health Care Navigator- whose mission is to assist and guide our veterans through the ever- changing and challenging world of healthcare, and to prioritize mental health needs of our veterans. As the SSVF program has been impacted with the growing need for mental health and healthcare issues, Jessica, was promoted to the newly created Health Care Navigator role. In this new role, Jessica is able to focus on the veterans health and mental state, ensuring that we are providing them with the best possible support throughout their housing experience at EOC of Suffolk.
