Church of the Epiphany 05.12.2020

A warm reminder to the people of the Church of the Epiphany: A Harvest/Stewardship Dinner and congregation-wide gathering WILL be held this year! You're invited to tune in via Zoom on Wednesday, 11/18/20, at 6 p.m. Please use the same link we use for Sunday services A special Harvest Dinner meal is being prepared by Selby Davis and may be picked up at the church. (Please contact Selby to make your choices.) In addition to a brief business meeting, there well be party games-...-a new "Guess Who is Who"--as well as discussion of a suggested anthem for the Church of the Epiphany. We all look forward to continuing our tradition of gathering to celebrate all that is and continues to be healthy, welcoming, and spirit-centered in Epiphany.

O God, you have bound us together in a common life. Help us, in the midst of our struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness, and to work together with mutual forbearance and respect; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (On Election Day, from The Book of Common Prayer)

The Church of the Epiphany has participated for many years in the local CROP Walk, coordinated in Trumansburg by TAC (Trumansburg Area Churches). Here's the link to participate this year, a time when CROP Walk may be needed more than ever! https://www.crophungerwalk.org/trumansburgny/ And here's some background on this worthy effort:... CROP Hunger Walks are community-based walk events held in cities and towns across the United States raising funds to support the global mission of Church World Service, a faith-based organization transforming communities around the globe through just and sustainable responses to hunger, poverty, displacement and disaster. Twenty five percent of the funds raised are returned to the host community to support local hunger fighting efforts. The Crop Project was organized in 1947 when farmers were asked to donate food and seed crops to our hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia, a program that soon became known as the Christian Rural Overseas Program - CROP. In 1969 in Bismarck, North Dakota, and in 1970 in York, Pennsylvania, the first walk events were organized to raise funds to support CROP. Since then, CROP Hunger Walk events have been held in hundreds of communities large and small raising millions of dollars to eradicate hunger and poverty Get Involved Hunger is one of the greatest injustices facing our world, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Ending hunger is possible, and it is possible in our lifetime. You can help make it happen.

In these challenging times, we often pray for each other with greater frequency and intentionality. What follows is a prayer written by Epiphany parishioner and friend, Don Schmidt. Thank you, Don, for your inspired, heartfelt writings. "Hear each name that I put to Thee, O God. Hear each thought which goes unspoken. Wipe each tear which falls in sorrow and touch each heart which is filled with pain. Before Thee stand thy people, O God, bound by the fears of humanity. Break asunder the chains of mortal bondage which keep Thy people apart from Thee. Take the hand which reaches out to Thee. Give strength to the weak and courage to those who fear. Put Thy song in the ears of those without joy. In Thee is all hope, O God, my father."
