It’s the time of year when we begin to worry about our feathered friends. Many people using heating lamps and bulbs to keep chickens and ducks warm in their coops. Take a look at these 7 steps to make the area a little safer and help prevent a fire from heating lamp. 1- Clean up cobwebs and dust, for obvious reasons, a dry dirty area is perfect environment for a fire to start. 2- Keep wires out of reach. Anyone that has small animals knows how much trouble they love to get i...n, for example rubbing or chewing on wires. 3- Double secure heat lamp. Wind and weather conditions can cause the lamp to swing, eventually leading to a dangerous situation. 4- Never put water bucket directly under lamp. If for some reason the lamp were to fall, electricity and water never mix well together. 5- Use heat lamp cages. Many lights come with protective cages that you install around the bulb, not only to reflect the heat but also to prevent from fires. 6- Keep lamps away from bedding. Most small a animal bedding is very dry(I.e. Hay, shavings) creating the perfect environment for starting and growing fires rapidly. 7- Check lamps for frayed wires. Electricity sparking in dry dusty environment is very dangerous for obvious reasons. Please remain safe and protect yourself and feathered friends from the devastation cause by fires!

The first snow!!! Please keep our plow operators in mind. Big heavy trucks clearing at least a 12 foot pass on narrow roads is a challenge. These drivers have to clear intersections and get these massive machines turned around to do their job. Please be extra alert around snowplows and school buses during the white roads mornings!!

It came very fast.... but ITS HERE!!! Forecast call for near freezing temperatures tonight and throughout the next several days. Remember higher elevations roads freeze faster then roads in town. Of course we will be seeing these snow removal machines again. Keep in mind the average snowplow weighs at minimum 66,000 lbs. Please give them plenty of room to stop, turn, and clean snow in intersections. Everyone be extra careful during dark hours on colder remote roads. Be safe all!!
