Time for the annual winter bird count at Esopus Bend Nature Preserve. SATURDAY, JANUARY 9, ALL DAY ANNUAL WINTER BIRD COUNT AT EBNP The 16th annual Esopus Bend Nature Preserve Winter Bird Count (WBC) will be conducted on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Participants will census wintering birds throughout the 160-acre Nature Preserve, recording numbers of individuals and species diversity. WBC results will become part of the Preserve's biodiversity database and will help provide... future guidance for land management and stewardship decisions. The diurnal part of the survey starts at approximately 7:45 a.m. Esopus Bend Nature Preserve is located on the banks of the Esopus Creek in the Village and Town of Saugerties in northern Ulster County. Previous counts conducted during the second week in January have recorded a cumulative total of 65 species. June 16 at 6 pm for the premiere of Farmscape Ecology, followed by a Q&A and discussion with the researchers in the film and award-winning film director Jon Bowermaster. Farming is ever-evolving. Today, when we think about what’s to come next for farmers, a key question is, How do we produce food and still maintain a livelihood for farmers, while respecting the needs of other organisms with which we share the land? As part of the Applied Farmscape Ecology Research Collaborative, scientists and researchers examine that question by researching and monitoring soil, water, and wildlife to discover how farming and wildlife co-exist.
