A video message to Mark from Dan Stec NY Assemblyman!
Here is a special video message for Mark from Congresswoman Elise Stefanik celebrating his dedicated service!
Congratulations to Chief Mark Estus on his 50 years of dedicated service to the Essex Fire Department!! Mark joined ESSEX VFD on Tuesday July 14th 1970. He followed in the footsteps of his father Arnold, who served as Fire Chief for 35 years. Mark later became certified as an EMT Intermediate and spent countless hours on the ambulance volunteering with the Essex Rescue Squad in tandem with his service on the fire department. In addition Mark also held a long term position ...as Chairman of the Essex Fire District #1 Commissioners, playing an instrumental role in the construction and completion of a new fire station in the early 2000s. Throughout his tenure with Essex VFD, Mark held a number of officer positions. In April, active members voted him in as Fire Chief for a month long term, rightfully honoring and recognizing the countless times Mark was in command at fire scenes over the past five decades. To applaud and celebrate his seasoned career, Mark received his Chief Helmet, a plaque from Mary Wade, and a gift certificate to the Essex Inn, while in the company of his fellow department members, family, and friends. Resolutions of congratulations from the Town of Essex, NYS Assembly, NYS Senate, and the US House of Representatives are forthcoming. Thank you again Chief Estus for your 50 outstanding years of service and dedication to the community and the Essex Fire Department!!
The Gear is Here!! Full sets have been distributed to each active member! Members will be completing monthly gear checks to make sure these brand new sets stay ready and in good standing condition for action!
Tonight Essex VFD members learned the proper procedure and standards for dressing a hydrant. Senior members led the training, which also went over deck gun operations as well as water supply approaches for both fires in the hamlet, and in more rural parts of the district. Thank you to all members who came out to participate!
Today members participated in a station work detail. Firefighters swept the bays, cleaned in and around lockers, removed grates and cleaned out the drainage system, among other tasks. Truck maintenance was also performed, including rolling and adding new supply line to our engine 161, as well as equipping 162 with forestry and wildland firefighting gear. Thank you to all of our members who came out and volunteered their time today, it is greatly appreciated!... Photos below
