Eurythmy Spring Valley 14.12.2020

My heart does mourn the loss. I have always considered it a privilege to live in New York City, to walk down the street or ride the subway and look into the fac...e of humanity. Now, wherever I turn, I look at masked faces; everyone hoping that it will protect us from present and future calamities, illness and even death. The painter Alexej Jawlensky sought in all his artistic striving to portray the human countenance and to distill it in the end into an archetypal form of which he said: Tell everyone, this is not a face. It is that which closes itself off below, opening itself to the above, and the encounter in the middle. He never painted his abstract heads without putting before his mind's I the features of someone living or already dead. For him the face was ‘the window where God and Man meet’, a place of encounter. Mindful of this I try to find consolation for the loss of the face by trying to transcend its archetypal features into soul gestures in my encounters with a ‘masked’ humanity. I try to imagine one humanity creating together a receptacle, a cup, by being closed off to the below, open to receive from above, allowing for the heart to be the place of encounter. Love by Alexey Jawlensky

Please note that the ESVE performance on March 14 has been POSTPONED. It will be rescheduled for a future date. We’ll keep you informed. ***** Into the Heart’s Unknown... Evening Program by Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble Saturday, March 14, 2020 8:00 p.m. Threefold Auditorium 260 Hungry Hollow Road Chestnut Ridge, NY Tickets: $15/$9 (students & seniors) Returning from the Winter 2020 European Tour, the Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble will share their evening program on the home stage. How can we become beings more capable of love in our conflicted world? Do we dare to be refashioned, surrendered, ennobled? Through the resonant words of poetry, the main theme of Into the Heart’s Unknown brings us again and again to the threshold of transformation, inviting us to consider the harsh, unexpected, and ultimately divine elements at work in the passage of our becoming. From the first initiatory call to risk everything to the necessity of surrender in the face of powerlessness, this program leads us through an inner unfolding into a recognition of the heart’s high calling. Our theme is echoed and enhanced by piano music. The nature of love is further elaborated in the second half through a whimsical charade of temperamental relationshipsthe requited, the unrequited, and the somewhat ridiculouswith an opening foray into Shakespeare’s fairy kingdom. The program concludes with the grand and beloved Ballade in G minor by Frédéric Chopin. . . . . . #eurythmy #eurythmysv #tour #movement #speecheurythmy #toneeurythmy #movementart #anthroposophy #dance #silk #space #invisible #vibrant #etheric #red #drama #power #skill #art #performance #performanceart
