Exploring The Arts 02.05.2021

There have been virtual plays, but I feel very hesitant to participate in them. Virtual school isn’t superbad, but when I look at the virtual practices and virtual performances, they’re a real tangible reminder of what’s been lost. I feel like there’s been an insensitivity about youth mental health. There’s a huge emphasis on taking care of and making time for yourself, but the best way to take care of myself was through my extracurriculars. I feel like a part of myself has been erased.

As it is now March and the middle of Women's History Month, we would like to share this beautiful video. This dance performance, featuring our own Martha Graham School intern Anjolina and her PPAS NYC Professional Performing Arts School: effort produces excellence produces excellence classmate Idea, pays homage to the Black female dancers of the past and present. They hope that this video will also highlight the importance of Black creatives and impact that they will have in the future. ...... #arstedmatters #artsed #BLM #womenshistorymonth #Blackcreatives #Blackwomen #Blackfemaledancers #homage #honor #blackwomencreatives

Exploring the Arts (ETA) condemns the recent attacks on our neighbors and friends in the Asian and Asian American community and fervently stands against the violence and discrimination being experienced by the community. These horrific attacks reflect what many of the students we serve experience daily: fear, lack of security, and dehumanization. We know that these attacks are part of a long history of systemic violence perpetrated against communities of color in this countr...y and that they must be challenged on a daily basis, especially during these times when specific communities are targeted. Similar to other parts of the country, hate crimes against Asian Americans and other members of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities in Los Angeles and New York have risen sharply in 2020, doubling and tripling in the past year. ETA stands with the Asian and Asian American community to call for a stop to this violence and demand action from our public officials. We also encourage concerned community members to support organizations taking action. Asian Americans Advancing Justice offers a comprehensive list of resources. At ETA the arts connect us with our unwavering commitment to justice, equity and inclusion. Our board, staff, artists, educators, teachers, administrators and partners come together in fighting social injustices by continuing to elevate and support the creativity of our youth, as well as identifying areas to unify and stand up and against any type of hate.
