John Colapinto There are a number of fascinating stories in this book: how our ability to speak developed from when the lungfish first emerged on land; how children learn to speak and the number of new words that they learn every day with normal stimulation; and the complicated timing and coordination involved to understand speech and to produce speech. There is also a section at the end of the book about speaking as a powerful tool to convince.... https://gwilliamsfamilyeye.wordpress.com//this-is-the-voi/

Many patients have been asking how to avoid the glasses fog that comes along with wearing a facemask. Contact lenses can be a great option. Soft contact lenses can be fit for patients with near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism, and even bifocal prescriptions. According to the CDC, there is no evidence of increased COVID-19 risk associated with contact lenses. If you are interested in being fit in contact lenses, please call our office to make an appointment.

Merlin Sheldrake The subject of this book, as stated in the subtitle, is both too small to be seen and all-encompassing: How fungi make our worlds, change our minds, and shape our future. The book presents information that is new to me which has surprising connections to our lives. It also reminds us to be suspicious when easy answers are proposed for complex problems.... https://gwilliamsfamilyeye.wordpress.com///entangled-life/

The Inside Story of the Ever-Changing Brain David Eagleman has created the term livewired to emphasize that the brain retains a degree of plasticity for our entire lives. We benefit from decreased plasticity as skills become habits (The Power of Habit). We also benefit from the residual plasticity which enables us, with guidance and persistence, to develop new habits that eventually become dominant over older habits.... https://gwilliamsfamilyeye.wordpress.com/20//10/livewired/

Blue light blocking lenses are very trendy right now, especially with work and school shifting to a virtual format. Do blue light filters really work? There is conflicting research. Studies have found that blue blocking filters have no significant impact on eyestrain, headaches, sleep quality or retinal health. Rather than blocking certain colors from your vision, it is best to work on visual hygiene by taking good quality breaks from technology at regular intervals throughout your day. I recommend decreasing the brightness of all devices, as well as turning on the night mode display when possible. Night mode is available on most devices and shifts cool toned displays to warmer tones. -Dr. McNierney
