"This Is Not An Isolated Event" - Zack Fried, Adoption STAR Compliance Director All of us at Adoption STAR are horrified, disgusted, and saddened by the events ...that occurred in Minnesota. We recognize that this is in no way an isolated event. As a black gay man and adoptee I am no stranger to both subtle and obvious racism. There are black children all over the country needing to prepare for this type of injustice as they grow up, and that alone is a major issue. We think about the families we helped create and we worry about you and your children as you watch these events take place as you live every day in this country of ours. I don’t want to stay quiet about this, and I hope you won’t stay quiet about this either. We shouldn’t let the dust settle on this matter, and we shouldn’t stop changing the world to be safer for our black family members, friends, and neighbors. If you can’t see why we are shouting Black Lives Matter, you are a part of the problem. Privilege takes many forms and taking a moment to see that is necessary. My heart goes out to George Floyd’s loved ones, and I am so sorry that black people in this country, live with this experience every single day. I promise you and I am destroyed to have to personally say this.... racism is the norm and not the exception. So, I need your help. Adoption STAR needs your help. We will be working to fight racism and not by just posting and talking about this, but by putting activism and money behind those people and organizations who need support to help us get to a better tomorrow.
