Little house BIG problems...you might even say HUGE problems. We just keep uncovering more and more structural issues with this project. 2 steps forward 20 back but we keep pushing forward with the help of all the @rescuingfamilies volunteers. We are determined to give the Helfenbein family a better home than when they left it in our care last month. Worrisome Wednesday...that's how we describe what we uncovered today. All of the sheathing is rotted from years if water damage from improperly installed roofing, soffits, gutters, windows and door. We had an idea that there might be some damage but not as bad as this. The Helfenbein family was living in worse conditions than they even thought, this damage was already starting to show up in the interior of the home. Imagine just for one minute being in a wheelchair and having to transfer, not once, not twice, but three times in order to get into your shower chair. Every transfer is just another risk of injury, another reason to be anxious, another reason to be riddled with fear. This space is not just a nightmare to navigate if you have a disability it is hazardous to the health of everyone in the household as well. Mold, electrical hazards and a bevy of other issues exist in this tiny ...space. This is just one of the obstacles that the Helfenbein family faces every day. Our project has been delayed for 2 weeks, the family all tested positive for COVID & thankfully is doing well!
