Did You know?? In 1817, New York School for the Deaf received charter, opening its doors to students one year later in downtown Manhattan. The school was the first school for the deaf to be chartered, but didn’t officially open until after American School for the Deaf (ASD). This photo depicts what we now refer to as City Hall.
Fanwood elementary students integrate technology into their physical education! They are having a blast making it through the virtual obstacles in order to advance to the next level of fitness! #DeafEd #BilingualEd #PhysEd #PE
Wrapping up the week with a Friday Fact! Did you know that along with a strong academic program, NYSD students were also exposed to many vocational trades starting in 1907? Some of these included metalwork, printing, sign making, sewing, journalism, publishing, and cooking. #DeafEd #BilingualEd #FanwoodFacts
Despite the global pandemic, we have so much to appreciate. We are grateful to our hard-working teachers and support staff members for persevering amid uncertain times. We are appreciative of our students for all their hard work, and our parents for continuing to encourage them. The Fanwood Community is more resilient, yet more flexible...and more aware of the need to appreciate what we have, rather than dwell on what we cannot control. Thank you to everyone for staying safe, wearing masks, and lending kindness, patience, and a helping hand when most needed. Warmest #Thanksgiving wishes from New York School for the Deaf, "Fanwood".
One of our young Fanwood students is showing creativity with a Turkey Name art project. This is a fun and festive seasonal activity for preschoolers to start practicing the spelling of their names. #Autumn #deafeducation #bilingualeducation #seasonofthanks
