A special thanks to the remote-only students who also came in and joined us to film this production. I appreciate you all so much! We extend our well-wishes to all Daler families during this time. 111 students were honored for their hard work and dedication with their induction into the Farmingdale High School chapter of the National Honor Society. The ceremony took place in the auditorium and included speeches from Superintendent Paul Defendini, Principal Dr. Samuel Thompson, and keynote speaker, social studies teacher James Hughes. To maintain COVID-19 regulations the school divided the class of inductees into two groups and held separate ceremonies. A livestream of the ceremony was provided to the families of those students being inducted into the National Honor Society. The Ceremony can be viewed by clicking here: https://youtu.be/7wshNz8N7lU

On Wednesday, the district shared a number of updates that highlight the impact of in-school learning, should Farmingdale be designated a Yellow Zone by Governor Cuomo. It remains our goal to keep our schools open for in-person instruction for as long as we safely can do so. We want to check-in with the community about your thoughts, questions, concerns regarding a Yellow Zone designation. This will help us address any questions or misconceptions and inform our implementat...ion/roll-out. Please share your thoughts and continue to rate the thoughts of others as much as you wish. This Thoughtexchange will close on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Soon after, we will share an FAQ around your questions and send more information out about our plans via Parentlink and our website. Farmingdale High School business honor society student, Aniqa Khan, was selected by her advisors Stacy Cabrera and Donna Wright to attend a virtual Winning Women Leadership Conference hosted by Virtual Enterprises. The Winning Women Leadership Conference is an early career development program for high-potential female leaders. Students attending had the opportunity to engage with and learn from inspiring women business professionals about the skills needed to develop successful careers. Aniqa was chosen by Mrs. Wright and myself to represent Farmingdale High School at the Winning Women's Conference, said business teacher Stacy Cabrera. Aniqa has demonstrated initiative and drive by seeking out leadership opportunities inside and outside of the classroom that she knows will open doors for her future.

On the evening of Tuesday, November 24th, 2020, 137 eighth graders were inducted to the National Junior Honor Society. In order to be eligible, they needed to retain an overall average of 92.0 or higher for all of sixth and seventh grade and provide proof of community service. To maintain their status, they must complete 4 hours of community service per month for the rest of the school year as well as uphold good grades. You represent the best of what a Howitt student can b...e, said Howitt Middle School Principal Michael Gavalas. We can all agree that success is a process and it takes a village, it takes a family to help each one of us find the best version of ourselves. To keep within COVID-19 regulations, this year’s ceremony was held virtually, recorded and posted on youtube for all families to enjoy. Congratulations to this year's inductees. Dear Farmingdale School Community, It’s safe to say that none of us, including myself, knew what to expect this school year. Those first few days of school were a whirlwind. Four days felt like four weeks. But amidst the noise and haste, something interesting happened in the days that followed, our staff started to settle the ball. Our level of comfort grew in this new world that we created and so did the experiences that we provided for our students. Walking the halls, I h...eard the sounds of joyful learning, heartfelt laughing, and a connection that I could have never imagined possible. In soccer, settling the ball provides momentary control, allowing the player to make a good next decision. Failing to settle the ball causes players to rush their decision-making process and ultimately results in careless mistakes. It is a reference back to Superintendent's Conference Day in September and my attempt to slow down the pace of what was going on all around us. Settle the Ball is the theme of this year’s Daler pin, something that we here in the district wear with pride to remember the essence of what it is to be a family and to remember the importance of our collective efforts. This year's Daler pin is featured in the attached video. As we enter the Thanksgiving break, I’d like to take a moment to thank the incredible staff we have here in the Farmingdale School District. We are truly blessed. I have found that sometimes words are not enough to express a person’s worth. Sometimes, people need to see themselves and see their impact to truly realize how selfless and powerful they truly are. This video is a testament to our staff putting their needs on the back burner and focusing instead on the needs of their students. Although we are all a bit beaten and battered, there has never been more reason to feel an overwhelming sense of pride than today. May every one of you have a most blessed and safe Thanksgiving break and enjoy the attached Settle the Ball video! All my best, Paul Defendini https://youtu.be/mW3HRokVSbw

Every year Farmingdale High School culinary students work tirelessly to prepare an authentic Thanksgiving dinner. Upon completion of cooking and baking, students sit down to enjoy their meals. However; due to a last minute switch to a remote learning schedule, this year’s Thanksgiving feast was canceled. Teachers were now left with enough food to feed more than 130 people and no students in attendance to eat them. Culinary teachers, Kate Kreuter and Jen Akeson didn't want these Thanksgiving dinners to spoil and go to waste so they reached out to Farmingdale High School social worker Josseline Morales. Together Kreuater, Akeson and Morales worked to distribute the food and donate the meals to families in need within the Farmingdale community.

Votes have already been cast for the presidential election but for these eight young politicians, the race has just begun. Voting for Albany Avenue’s Student Council is this Tuesday, November 24th. All students, grades 3, 4, and 5 both in school and remote will have the opportunity to vote. Administrators and staff are extremely proud of all eight very deserving candidates.
