It’s an exciting weekend of collaboration and exploration at the intersection of fashion and technology. This FREE event brings together university students of different majors from a wide variety of places to learn new skills and create innovative projects. With support of mentors from a variety of disciplines, universities, and industries the event fosters networking, coll...aboration, and innovation. @cotton_works is hosting a student-only webinar Wednesday, Oct 21 at 4pm entitled: The Life of Cotton: From Dirt to Shirt and Beyond. The webinar is a first in our three-part Cotton X College Webinar Series. During the webinar students will hear from cotton experts to learn how cotton is grown and transformed into yarns, fabrics, and textile products. They will be introduced to current issues in cotton such as sustainability, traceability, and responsibility, and learn how cotton can be reused, recycled, and returned to the earth. Two of our students have worked on textile designs that are on display at the The Buffalo History Museum. Check it out! All visitors must pre-register. The museum is offering free admission through the end of 2020. The student work is on display in an exhibit highlighting 50 years of the Garman Art Conservation Department at Buffalo State. The museum asked for our students' help in reproducing curtains for a desk from the Larkin Soap Company. Recent Textile Design graduate,... Kayla Lackie designed the fabric for the curtains. A slide show in the exhibit will feature the recent work of Carleen Gabrys (another Textile Design student) who reproduced an 1850s calico as well as the doll's dress from which the fabric design originated. An image of the doll wearing the reproduced garment will be part of the slide show. #buffalostatefashion #buffalostate #buffalohistory

Hello all, On behalf of the Runway team and I, we would like to thank everyone for their feedback. We hear you. This is how change begins. We will be gathering all of your questions, comments, and concerns and will be having an open discussion in October. We hope you will join us. Embracing the Black Lives Matter movement is a campus-wide initiative (https://suny.buffalostate.edu/social-justice *link in bio) and we are very excited to participate. Our intentions are to activ...ely engage in conversation and support our Black students and community. Runway will be creating year-long programming to spark conversations and create actions both on and off campus. Runway serves as a platform for expression and to embrace conversations that are needed in the fashion industry. As a fashion department, we choose to stand on the right side of history. This is about education, uplifting Black voices, and celebrating Black lives to enact widespread change. This is not performative. This is about our Buffalo State students and faculty using their voices to advocate for Black Lives. Looking forward to having a much needed conversation with all of you. Be well and stay safe.
