Friends - Another Hero has passed. FF James D Shaughnessy FDNY passed from his 9/11 related related illnesses. And again a shrinking fraternity of Heroes contin...ues to mourn for it's own. The last few months have been the deadliest for the 9/11 Responder Community and so many will not achieve their goals of say "I made it 20 years". To James's family & friends we offer our warmest & sincere thoughts and our virtual hugs are filled with empathy to help ease your pain. On September 18th at 10am James will join the elite group of Patriots who were simply the best of what this Nation offered 20 years ago. Our units started immediately evacuating the mall area and the multiple dwelling. We finished securing the area with NYPD and awaited the arrival of the bomb s...quad, says FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Fred Schaaf, Queens Borough Commander, from the Queens mall, 56th Avenue and Queens Boulevard where a suspicious vehicle with a possible explosive device was parked. FDNY Lieutenant Stephen Rhine, Engine 287, who was first on the scene says, We met with a building representative and an NYPD Police Officer who provided us with a description of the device they had encountered. Based on the information we had on hand at that time, we began a prompt but safe and orderly evacuation of the mall and the neighboring residential buildings. NYPD Bomb Squad determined this was a hoax device and the scene was rendered safe.

At age 18, John joined the Patchogue Fire Department and rose through the ranks becoming Captain of Euclid Hose Company. John retired as Lieutenant Firefighter from House Engine 266 after serving his community for 29 years of which included his heroic and selfless role as a 9/11 First Responder. John maintained strong faith as a valued member of the Bellport Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
