It has been a busy past few days for us as we celebrate the holidays. We have had 2 fire call and 2 EMS calls over that span. On December 23rd at 2325 hours, we were dispatched to a fire alarm activation on State Route 3 in an apartment building. 21-0-1, 21-0-2, 21-0-3, 21-0-4, 21-1-1, and 21-7-1 responded to the scene along with Fort Drum Fire, and Rutland Fire. Upon arrival, 21-0-1 observed a two story apartment building with nothing showing and requested that mutual a...id companies remain in quarters while he was investigating. It was determined that the alarm was coming from an apartment in the building that appeared that no one was home. Law enforcement arrived and the door to the apartment had to be forced to silence the alarm. We would like to thank the 9 members that responded and to Fort Drum Fire of their assistance as they arrived on scene with us. We returned to service shortly afterwards at 2350 hours. On Dec 24th at 1955 hours, we were dispatched to a transformer fire on State Route 3 in front of the North Country Redemption Center. 21-0-1, 21-0-2, 21-0-3, 21-0-4, 21-1-1, and 21-7-1 responded to the scene. Upon arrival, 21-0-1 determined that it was indeed a pole fire and requested that State Route 3 be shut down do to the fact that the wires were in risk of falling across the roadway. 21-1-1 shut the road down at Wilton Road West, 21-7-1 shut the road down at Wilton Road East, redirecting traffic around the scene. National Grid was notified and eventually came to correct the situation. We would like to thank the 10 members that responded on the eve of Christmas. State Route 3 was reopened and we returned to service at 2132 hours without further incident. Everyone please be safe out there and we wish you a Happy Holiday Season!

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town, The fire siren echoed blaring its sound. The firefighters came running from far and from near, And ra...ced to the trucks quickly donning their gear. And I in my bunkers, my boots and my hat, Jumped to the engine to see where the fire's at. Down at the corner of Hemlock and Big Oak, The dispatcher informed us of a house filled with smoke. Smoke poured from the sides, from up and from down, Yet up on the roof there was none to be found. So up to the rooftop we raised up a ladder, And climbed to the top to see what was the matter. I came to the chimney and what did I see, But a fellow in red stuck past his knees. Well we tugged and we pulled until he came out, Then he winked with his eye and said with a shout. "These darn newfangled chimneys they make them too small, For a fellow as I, not skinny at all." With a twitch of his nose he dashed to his sleigh, and called to his reindeer, "AWAY now, AWAY." As we rolled up our hoses he flew out of sight, Saying "God bless our firefighters" and to all a good night!

At 1924 hrs this evening, Felts Mills Fire was activated for an outdoor fire on Cemetery Rd. 21-0-1, 21-0-2, 21-0-3, 21-0-4, 21-1-1, and 21-7-1 responded shortly after. Upon arrival, 21-0-1 found fire in the yard that had spread to a shed/lean to approx 30/40 feet from a residence. 21-1-1 was instructed to hit the closest hydrant and a hand line was stretched to protect exposures and extinguish the fire. Great job by all that attended. We were back in service at 2033.

****Seatbelts save lives.**** Had our four firefighters not been wearing their seatbelts the outcome of this accident would have been worse. Those involved ...walked away with minor injuries. Engine 7-1 was recovered, and returned to Station 7. Photos have been attached. WRFPD would like to thank all of those who assisted us Saturday night; the out pouring of support from our community and beyond has not gone unnoticed. We wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday season.

So thankful for our family. Yes these firemen are family. Our daughter and her boyfriend got lost on the Gleasman’s Falls trail last night. It was cold and dark. But they survived and they were found. Thank you to the Lewis County state troopers and forest rangers.
