NYC city kids...(scratch that) NYC tweens have taken over Florida and we couldn’t be happier. Now I understand why they call Miami/FL NY South. We have been lucky to catch up with sooo many of our school families and friends. Grateful that our kids (and parents) get this socialization after a year of remote learning. One of our favorite traditions is displaying our holiday cards on our wall. It’s been so fun to see pictures of our friends with their kids, their 4-legged pets or a beautiful card with no pictures and a note. The hard part is deciding when to take them down. The Annual Salvation Army Angel Tree Toy Drive is happening now. Created in 1979, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program provides new clothing and toys for children in need for the holidays with the support of donors. The families on the holiday list all live in lower Manhattan, between 14th Street and South Ferry. Recipients range in age from 6 months to 95 years old. The Angels are selected through a Salvation Army application process. Approved families have experienced a ...financial crisis or hardship, participate in free or reduced lunch programs, receive TANF, SNAP, and are at or below the poverty line. They may also live in the city's shelter system.
