As some of you may be aware, our initial goal in formulating a shaving soap was matching the legendary lathering performance of Tabac. After unsuccessful attempts to work with just about every large soap producer in the US, we eventually expanded our search to Europe, where, to our surprise, we found we could actually procure the same soap base used by Tabac! Not long after, Fine Classic Shaving soap was born. Now, the corporate owners of the proud, century-old factory that p...roduced this soap base have seen fit to close the facility and recycle their machinery for scrap. As a result, Fine Classic Shaving Soap can no longer be produced and must be permanently discontinued. Thankfully, this news did not come as a complete surprise, so we do expect to have a rather incredible replacement soap available around year-end. But in the meantime, the remaining stock of Fine Classic Shaving Soap is available only while supplies last. The World's Finest Razor launches on Thursday at noon, EST. When we realized we had all the resources to make the heirloom-quality razor of our dreams at a much more affordable price than available elsewhere, we simply couldn’t NOT do it. So here’s what we did: Start with the Best... The cutting geometry of The Worlds Finest Safety Razor exactly replicates what may be the greatest vintage razor of all time - The NEW Gillette (long comb) Razor, Gillette’s flagship product throughout the decade of the 1930s. The NEW was their first razor specifically designed for modern-type blades, but the last before their business model changed to favor cost-cutting and more gimmicky pursuits. Gillette NEW safety razors were popular even decades later as its clientele included luminaries such as President John F. Kennedy. Make It Better The World’s Finest Razor improves upon the high watermark of the Gillette NEW razor and offers the ultimate in durability. Each piece of our razor is precision machined from solid 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel. Unlike typical safety razors (modern or vintage), it will never break, bend or chip during normal use, and the finish can forever be restored to its original luster. Even other premium razors - constructed of softer steel (usually 303 or 304) - will often develop mild rust (a.k.a. tea stains) wherever the blades make direct contact with the razor itself. 316 Stainless is more costly but avoids this issue as long as blades are removed when the razor is in long-term storage.
