New Yorkers may be seeing more dead fish in the water this spring than in past years. The winter of 2020-2021 created optimal conditions for winter kills, which... usually occur in shallow waterbodies with aquatic plant growth. Winterkill occurs when snow that accumulates on the ice reduces the amount of light penetrating through the water, inhibiting the photosynthesis cycle in plants and reducing the amount of oxygen (a byproduct of the cycle) available to fish and other organisms. The problem is exacerbated when fish die, as the decomposition process also consumes any available oxygen in the pond. Hello All! We did an interview about Finger Lakes Bait and Tackle and fishing on Conesus with Jeff Miller and Bob Savage of WYSL today. It will air on the Time Out program this Saturday (10/17) at 9 am and 5 pm. 1040 AM, 92.1 FM and 95.5 FM. Just a reminder, although we are closed for the season, the outside fridge has nightcrawlers and red worms. We'll keep them out there as long as we can until it's too cold for the refrigerator.

Hello Friends. We are open tomorrow for our final day until we reopen in mid-December to prepare for ice season. It's been a tough season, but we're thankful that fishing has been a pasttime that could still be enjoyed. It was great to see everyone. Gary's going to take time to hunt and fish a bit. Floating docks at the Conesus State Launch will be removed week of Oct 18th. Did not give exact date, launch will still be open after removal of docks.
