Thank you Noah for volunteering to help with animal care today. We did a full strip of our animal stalls in the pole barn, raked animal yards, disinfected crates, cut willow browse for enrichment, and spent some time socializing with the pigs and goats. Noah is a FLCC student who chose to volunteer with us to fulfill his practicum requirements for seminar in environmental conservation. As you can see, the animals quite enjoyed his company. Many thanks for all your hard work today!

Very cool animation that accurately depicts the seasonal progression of our different anurans calling here at FLWC. We are using this season to practice our skills for future FrogWatch USA nights. Get out there and start learning your vocalizations! Thanks, Erin Lord-Astles

Some of our camera trap captures from the beginning of the pandemic. We combine images into a short slide show, starting out with a mother raccoon encouraging her offspring to travel down our new wetland trails. These camera traps were donated by dear friends and board members and have produced some excellent captures over the years that we can use to monitor resident wildlife, interpret images into data for research purposes, and to use as educational materials for teaching... people of all ages animal behavior, ecological importance, and value of maintaining good habitat for our local wildlife. However, these cameras are reaching the end of their shelf life. You can see that the time stamp does not work on one of our cameras, and the other produces poor quality images. Please consider donating towards our FLWC educational fund so that we can acquire new cameras and other materials for future programming. You can donate through facebook, our website, or contact us at [email protected]. Thank you! Erin Lord-Astles, Director of FLWC

Hey there everyone! FLWC co-founder Erin has been appointed the Director of Wolf Mountain Nature Center and will be helping the center meet their organizational goals, plan for the future, and promote wild canid conservation while she works towards our goals of building a small wildlife education center in Farmington/Palmyra. Stay tuned for updates on what FLWC hopes to achieve this season. In the mean time, please head over to Wolf Mountain's page and give them a like and follow. They have amazing things happening, gorgeous animals and facility. We are happy for the opportunity to learn from them.

Hey there friends and followers. We’ve been pretty silent on social media during this pandemic, but we want to share our Finger Lakes Wildlife Center year in review with you. Our plans most certainly changed and we didn’t make the progress this season we hoped to, but we are still hopeful for the future. Here are some of the major events for FLWC in 2020: *Founder Erin Lord-Astles continues to work part-time on K-12 programing for the FLCC Muller Field Station, and still is...Continue reading

It's been a long time since we've done an update, but all our animals are doing great! Health issues have been resolved and everyone is quite happy to be enjoying these cooler fall days grazing in their pastures.

Good animal husbandry includes minimizing stress during veterinary procedures. Pigs often require physical restraint during injections; they scream loudly, fight with incredible strength, and stress themselves (and everyone else) out. Training Nelson for injections for the last several months has paid off! When in need of treatment for a skin issue, we were able to get it done easily and he didn't even hold a grudge! And our vet sure will be happy when he is due for his next round of vaccinations. Such a wonderful piggo <3
