It is with heavy hearts that the Fishers Fire District announces that Chief Andy Stromfeld’s battle with 9/11 related cancer has come to an end, as he passed away today. Chief Stromfeld joined Fishers in 2006 after a distinguished career with the NYPD ESU, where he responded to 9/11 and assisted with the search rescue efforts in the time thereafter. With the Fishers Fire District, he held every line officer position, and served as District Chief from 2012-2018.... Those who knew him know that Andy served with honor, dignity and respect. He will be truly missed. Godspeed Chief.

Fishers members and staff saluted the procession of two deceased Army National Guard personnel as they were transported from the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office to Watertown, New York. YEAR IN REVIEW Chief Daniel Chapman As we close my first full year as your Fire Chief I would like to take a few moments to reflect. Who would have thought that we would have had a pandemic like COVID-19 and the disruption to life that it caused all of us? We here at the Fire District had to make a lot of adjustments with the ever-changing guidelines from the Federal and State Governments. Our mission never changed and the commitment to our community of each and every firefi...Continue reading

CAUTION With the toll booths gone there is a vastly new traffic pattern at the I-490, I-90 interchange. Please pass through this area diligently! Yesterday, District personnel responded to five back to back calls, some occurring simultaneously. These calls included responses to a reported structure fire, a cardiac arrest and this very close call on the thruway. This 911 call came in as a tractor trailer truck rolled over an embankment with a person trapped. Luckily the ...driver was able to get out of the vehicle. However, if they had not been able to, this response would have been much more intensive. . . . . Firefighting is a conglomerate of innumerable, perishable skills, at the individual, unit, shift and department level. All requiring practice, drill and rehearsal. Training is critical to the health and safety of firefighters and the citizens that will count on their skills. Not only is training important to a well-functioning department but it also serves to ensure that firefighters meet industry standards, such as those from: NYS Code of Rules and Regulations, NY Public Em...ployee Safety and Health Bureau, Insurance Service Office and the National Fire Protection Association. In 2020, a difficult year to navigate with the pandemic, firefighters assigned to the training department created a structured training program consisting of 296 formal daily training sessions and 12 monthly training sessions for career firefighters, 41 Monday night drills for volunteer firefighters and 22 recruit training sessions for new career and volunteer firefighters. These activities produced a total of 8,279 hours of training. We post pictures of training all the time, but today we would like to highlight some of the behind the scenes work that these men and woman put into the training department, not only this past year but also every year.
