We are thrilled to share our next honoree for @FITnyc's 2021 Sustainability Awards, taking place on April 13. Eileen Fisher, Founder of EILEENFISHER, Inc. (@eileenfisherny), will receive the Changemaker in Corporate Sustainability Award. Eileen first ventured into clothing design in 1984. Her original conceptsimple, timeless pieces that work together to help women get dressed easilystill defines the company’s collections. In 2009, EILEEN FISHER, Inc. started a take-back pr...ogrampart of a circular system designed to preserve the value of the brand’s clothes at every stage, in any condition. The company has taken back over 1.5 million garments to date, transforming damaged clothes into one-of-a-kind artworks, pillows, wall hangings and accessories using a custom felting technique that requires no water or dyes. In spring 2015, the company announced VISION2020, a bold five-year plan that addresses sustainability and human rights. In keeping with Fisher’s belief in collaboration, VISION2020 calls for partnering with other brands to shift the fashion industry. On the heels of VISION2020, the company introduced Horizon2030 in April 2020, which shifts the focus from doing less harm to making a positive difference through regenerative practices that ultimately benefit people and the planet. Other honorees include Stacy Flynn, FIT alumna and Co-Founder and CEO of @Evrnu, and Abrima Erwiah, Co-Founder and President of @StudioOneEightyNine. The virtual awards will be hosted by model, activist, and social impact entrepreneur @AmberValletta. The 2021 @FITnyc Sustainability Awards taking place on Tuesday, April 13 will be hosted by model, activist, and social impact entrepreneur Amber Valletta (@ambervalletta). Amber Valletta appeared on her first Vogue at age 18 and is one of the few top models who holds the record for the most U.S. Vogue covers in history a total of 13. She has appeared as the face of Prada, Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein, Gucci, and Giorgio Armani, and has starred in films like Hitch and Wha...t Lies Beneath, as well as TV shows such as Revenge and Blood and Oil. Seeking to blend her love of fashion with her values led to a groundbreaking collaboration with Yoox, dubbed Master & Muse by Amber Valletta, from 2013 to 2015. M&M operated as an online store that offered stylish, cutting-edge, responsibly made fashion created and produced by sustainable designers. As the project heightened awareness about the world of #sustainablefashion, Amber also continued her advocacy through thought leadership, educating many both within and outside the industry on the importance of environmental and social justice. Over the years, Amber has worked with international organizations and events such as the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, H&M Foundation’s Global Change Award, Sustainable Brands Conference, and SXSW Eco. She also lends her mentorship to the CFDA Sustainable Fashion Initiative and is on the advisory boards of Cradle to Cradle (Fashion +), Environmental Media Association, and Nest. In 2020, British Vogue named Amber as their inaugural Contributing Sustainability Editor. Many thanks to @townandcountrymag for spreading the news about the Art Smith Memorial Scholarship at @FITnyc in their February 2021 issue. Named in honor of influential mid-century modernist New York City-based Black jewelry designer Art Smith (1917-1982), a group of 50 jewelry industry brands recently joined forces to fund a $50,000 endowed scholarship at FIT. The Fund will create ongoing scholarships and mentorships to support Black students attending the school's Jewelry Design program (@fitnycjewelry).
