Ikea's 2017 Catalog Is A Terrifying Glimpse Into The Tiny Apartments Of The Future Micro apartments. They're all the rage, mostly because they're all that the majority of metropolis-living millennials can actually afford. But the jury is still out on whether micro apartments are going to be the utopian cure to cities' housing shortages . . . or just another step toward a crowded Earth dystopia where we're all packed together like pink, gill-less krill. My feelings on micro ap...artments after checking out Ikea's 2017 furniture catalog, which was released yesterday? Dystopia, all the way down. Even Ikea couldn't make living in a pallet-sized studio for half your salary look anything less than nightmarish. The Swedish furniture giantwhich has been predicting that millions more people will be living in micro apartments by 2020has made smaller and smarter living the theme of its annual catalog. But even Ikea couldn't make living in a pallet-sized studio for half your salary look anything less than comically nightmarish, like outtakes left on the cutting-room floor from Woody Allen's Sleeper.

IKEA recalls 36 million chests and dressers Swedish furniture company IKEA Group [IKEA.UL] is recalling almost 36 million chests and dressers in the United States and Canada but said the products linked to the deaths of six children are safe when anchored to walls as instructed. The recall covers six models of MALM chests or dressers manufactured from 2002 to 2016 and about 100 other families of chests or dressers that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said could to...pple over if not anchored securely to walls, posing a threat to children. "It is simply too dangerous to have the recalled furniture in your home unanchored, especially if you have young children," CPSC Chairman Elliott Kaye said in a statement on Tuesday. Tipped-over furniture or television sets kill a U.S. child every two weeks, he added. IKEA said that the recall was based on a standard applicable in North America for free-standing clothing storage units and that the products meet all mandatory stability requirements in Europe and other parts of the world.
