Pastors...Some Things to Consider

Finger Lakes Baptist Association 16.05.2021

In the country of South Africa there are various diseases that affect the orange trees. One of them is popularly known by the name of the root disease. A tre...e may be bearing fruit, and an ordinary observer may not notice anything wrong. However, an expert can see the beginning of a slow death. This disease also affect the vineyards , and only one cure has been found. That is to take out the old roots and provide new ones. The old vine is grafted onto a new root. In time you will have the same stem and branches and fruit as before, but the roots are new and able to resist the disease. The disease comes in the part of the plant that is hidden from sight, and that is where the healing must also take place. Andrew Murray- The Inner Life pp.5-6 What an incredible statement... The disease comes in the part of the plant that is hidden from sight, and that is where the healing must also take place. How often the thing, the sin that so easily besets us is the very thing that we’ve hidden from everyone, though its not hidden from God! That’s the thing we need to deal with...and only when we deal with it can the healing begin! Like that tree, it may look good to others, but the expert (God) sees the demise coming if the thing is not addressed.

Therefore the king said to me, Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart. So I became dreadfully afraid, and said to ...the king, May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire? Then the king said to me, What do you request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it. Nehemiah 2:2-5 NKJV As I’m reading O.S. Hawkins The Nehemiah Code, and reading through the book of Nehemiah, so many points are jumping off the page of this text. If what we are seeing all around us doesn’t dishearten us, I have to wonder if we care about anything besides ourselves. What we see taking place in our world should break our hearts, especially if we could look through Jesus’ eyes! If we can look at sin and not be angry...if we no longer blush at sin taking place all around us... if we can look at sin and not want to repent of it, it could be that we’re part of the problem! May we have the same heart as Nehemiah... a heart to rebuild what’s broken in our homeland, in our town, in our churches, in our families and in our own hearts! May God help us.
