Whether you are a seasoned paddleboarder or new to the activity, here are some other tips when it comes to using stand-up paddleboards. 1. Wear a lifejacket and... carry a whistle 2. Be a competent swimmer 3. Know how to self rescue 4. Know how to tow another board 5. Know the local regulations and navigation rules 6. Understand the elements and hazards winds, tidal ranges, current, terrain 7. Know when to wear a leash 8. Be defensive don’t go where you aren’t supposed to be and avoid other swimmers, boaters, paddleboards 9. Use proper blade angle to be the most efficient paddle boarder 10. Take a safety course And remember have fun and be safe!

Docks and boats are a source of electricity. Faulty wiring or other electrical circumstances can easily cause the surrounding water to become energized and dead...ly. Please be aware of the hidden dangers associated with electric shock drowning. Do not swim at docks or marinas, especially those with electricity. Boats and docks should have their electrical systems routinely inspected and serviced. Wear your life jacket on your boat and at the dock. Expect the unexpected and be prepared. As Auxiliarists, we have a variety of covers designated for specific uniforms. ...Here is a quick reference guide for authorized covers. Remember, there is specific military cover etiquette that applies to various situations, indoors, outdoors, when at a funeral, aboard ship, etc. It is important and an act of respect to follow these procedures. Boating at night or during limited visibility adds layers of safety concerns and potential danger. Vessels are required to show navigation lights from sunset to... sunrise and during periods of restricted visibility. The first rule of night boating is to slow down under all circumstances. Slower speed allows for a more thorough lookout of your surroundings while on the water. Look and listening to your surroundings. Turn off the stereo and remove headphones. It helps to have extra crew for extra eyes and ears. Make sure your running lights are operable and on! Powerboats should also have a 360-degree white light on at all times at night. Know the aids to navigation system for your area. Know how other lighted boats will look from your perspective. Understanding these light displays will provide valuable information.
