We are having a bit of a crisis in the acupuncture community and you can help. The acupuncture community is currently battling for our rights as healers within the Medicare system. I know you're busy so I'll give you the super short bullet point summary. The acupuncture community is working to get recognized by Medicare as independent providers so we can treat and bill independently.... When Medicare set their payment rates (which are on the low side) several insurance companies including the VA decided to follow their lead and reduce their pay rates as well. Medicare has proposed to reduce acupuncture payment rates further to make them the same as dry needling and trigger point acupuncture. Dry needling and trigger point therapy require significantly less training, skill, and diagnosis than a holistic acupuncture treatment. If Medicare goes forward with this rate reduction many acupuncturists will refuse to treat Medicare patients and will withdraw from other insurance networks that reduce their rates. This will reduce access to acupuncture care not just for Medicare patients but for those of you who pay for private insurance that covers acupuncture. I am asking that you take a moment to submit a formal comment opposing these rate changes. The deadline for submission is October 5th. Fly Again Acupuncture 518-232-1759 Public Comment to Proposed PFS Fee reductions To Whom It May Concern: I am an acupuncture patient who has been informed that my acupuncturist will not be accepting Medicare patients if this new policy is put in place. I use acupuncture for my pain management and do not want to have to use opioids or other medications with side effects. Therefore I was grateful to hear about the CMS Acupuncture policy for chronic low back pain and was hopeful that CMS would continue to expand covered conditions.. Acupuncture is an important part of my healthcare. I oppose the reduction in payments for acupuncture treatment.
