Is summer coming? We're ready to get back to the beautiful Buffalo waterfront!
The SUNY ECC City Campus building, formerly the Buffalo Post Office, underwent an extensive restoration and #rehabilitation project back in 2010. The #restoration required familiarity with archaic building methods in order to develop technical solutions that ensured the longevity of the National Historic Register property. This #historic building, constructed in 1896, is comprised of composite #granite masonry deal is, a 180-foot tall tower and steep pitched clay tile clad roofs. The #masonry repairs, roof replacement, iron porte cochere and stair reconstruction provided 21st century repairs with a 19th century aesthetic. #buffaloarchitect #buffalo #buffalony #architecture #historicpreservation #masonryrestoration #roofreplacement #highereducation #suny
As the weather improves more folks in WNY will be heading down to Canalside along the Buffalo River. While many think of Canalside as new, the continuing transf...ormation of the area has been underway for many years. This image is from an early project in 2007 where the foundations of historic buildings along the Erie Canal were restored, the first bridge installed and the new museum building at the Naval and Military Park was constructed. Happy Earth Day! Today we are featuring the green roof and deck rehabilitation at Drake Memorial Library Plaza at SUNY Brockport. Completed in 2015, the masonry and concrete structure was repaired and had select replacement. A new waterproof membrane and concrete pavers as well as vegetated roof tiles, windscreen's and lighting were added to the plaza. Green roofs absorb rainwater, provide added insulation and help lower urban air temperatures. This project was designed in collaboration with @jklastudio #buffaloarchitect #greenroof #sunybrockport #highereducation #buildingscience #sustainability #greenbuildings
Did you know the mechanical system at @babevillebuffalo relies on thirty geothermal wells dug into the south side of the church to a depth of 300 feet? Water is run through the underground pipes and using the constant temperature of the ground the air can be cooled or heated (with boiler supplements) from the 54F temperature of the ground. This system greatly minimizes the heating requirements and energy requirements traditionally used to heat or cool a similar space. FBA completed the adaptive reuse of the formerly Delaware Asbury Church in 2006. We are so excited to be a part of the reconstruction of the Lancaster, New York Historical Society Museum porch! Construction is underway - what a good excuse to visit this historic village this coming weekend!
It's #throwbackthursday! It's hard to believe that the Daemen College Academic and Wellness Center used to be the YMCA building on Main Street in Amherst. FBA completed this project in Fall of 2015 after an aggressive construction schedule to completely transform the building. Many college campuses in the WNY area are continuing their work during this unprecedented time including Daemen College, who holds courses for their Physical Therapy and Athletic Training programs in this now 5 year old project! #tbt #buffaloarchitect #transformation #adaptivereuse #architectlife #construction #highereducation #architecture #daemencollege
It's #throwbackthursday - today we're looking back at the Student Commons at Nichols School in Buffalo NY. The Student Commons project created a multipurpose space that expanded the dining facilities for students as well as functioning as a student commons during the day, while operating as a large meeting space and lobby for the Flickinger Performing Arts Center. Situated between the historic Mitchell Hall and the existing Flickinger PAC, this addition has brought natural sunlight and views to the athletic fields inside. #architecture #team #buffaloarchitect #education We had a great team on this project including M/E Engineering, P.C., Tredo Engineers, Watts Architecture & Engineering, Joy Kuebler Landscape Architect, PC! It's nearly here - the new Thomas Tischer Visitors Center at the George Eastman Museum! Join us for the virtual ribbon cutting on Thursday at 10am!
