Our Rose Hill tutor, Bethany, is also featured today for #whatsinmybagwednesday! She writes: Quarantine is a great time to pick up reading again, and I’m hoping for my upcoming birthday I get at least a few books to pass the time! For now, I have P. Carl’s Becoming a Man: The Story of a Transition. My professor for my queer theory tutorial class leant it to me shortly before we were quarantined, but I hope to be able to give it back some day. It is an excellent, moving story... about a transgender woman’s transition journey, seamlessly weaving together academia, personal anecdote, and queer theory. The other book, Shakespeare’s Sonnets Freshly Phrased by Joseph Gallagher, was a gift from my parents several years ago. Basically, Gallagher’s retirement project was to rewrite all 154 of Shakespeare’s sonnets in a way that would be easier for modern readers to understand. He did quite an amount of research for this project, and original sonnets contain plenty of footnotes on possible original wording, similarly imagery, and social mores of the time. I remember pouting sophomore year of college because I wasn’t allowed to use this book for my essay as it wasn’t a scholarly source. During times like this, it’s nice to turn to the comfort of your favorite reads. Please check out either of these excellent reads! #whatsinmybag #whatsinmybagtoday #wednesday #writing #writingcenter #fordham #fordhamuniversity #fordhamuniversityrosehill #rosehill
