"It is one thing to read about local history, but Tyler Booth sees an opportunity to literally step into history through a living museum. He envisions re-creating the setting of an early 19th century tavern and having period-outfitted guides interpret the stories of the time. Forsyth-Warren Tavern is a rare gem from Niagara County’s past and it is being restored to its original state, not made into something else, not torn down and not reduced to just a paragraph in a book. Made into a living museum, you’d understand Forsyth Tavern similar to the way you interpret the age and events that affected an ancient tree by examining its growth rings."

Could you be descended from the Forsyth Tavern? You may be surprised to find out how many of the area's most prominent figures can tie their family histories to this historic landmark; and we invite you to explore our first proprietors' lineages and their stories with our new digital research library! The Forsyth Family, descending from the great Charlemagne, arrived in America at the Plymouth Colony just 40 years after its founding. ... The Ganson Family arrived as one of the very first settlers of the Plymouth Colony; with Captain Ganson sailing to the New World on the ship Talbot. The Warrens appear to descend from the most famous ship in American history itself; the Mayflower, with Richard Warren being one of only 53 pilgrim passengers to survive through the first winter of 1620-21. https://www.forsythtavern.com/research-library.html

George Washington continued the centuries old Thanksgiving Day celebration under the new Constitution in 1789. But did you know that this tradition was abolished under Thomas Jefferson in 1815 and continued to be unrecognized until 1863; when Abraham Lincoln reinstated the tradition to celebrate victory at Gettysburg? #thanksgivinghistory #washingtonsthanksgivingdayproclamation #thanksgivinginthe19thcentury

Here is a sneak peak at the current work being done at the Tavern! Over the next few months the volunteers here will be carefully removing the current layer of flooring and revealing the original Hemlock floors laid by Mary and John Forsyth. Just imagine for a moment, the centuries of travelers that walked these floors; from Govenor De Witt Clinton, to Chief Red Jacket, to our earliest pioneers, and maybe even your own ancestors. ... Stay tuned for some inside exploration and insights from our skilled restorers as we journey back in time through this exciting restoration project! #iffloorscouldtalk #landmarksofniagaracounty #historicrestoration #nationalregisterofhistoricplaces #livinghistorymuseums #niagaracountyhistory #thisiswhereitallbegan
