The song "Yankee Doodle" was written at Fort Crailo in 1758 by Dr. Richard Shuckurg, a British Army surgeon. It is often sung patriotically in the United States today and is the state anthem of Connecticut.
This beautiful painting of Fort Crailo is actually a mural at the Hawley Building at the University of Albany. This is one of 23 murals created in 1937 and 1938 under a grant from the WPA by famed artist William Brantley Van Ingen. The mural depicts a band playing Yankee Doodle with Fort Crailo in the background.
