Hello everyone! I thought I would share some thoughts about caring for your pets through these strange and uncertain times. Hopefully I can help ease some fears or uncertainties you may be facing. 1. The majority of veterinary clinics will remain open as the AVMA is fighting for us to be considered essential businesses. That being said, please consider calling your veterinarian beforehand if you have a concern about your pet as you may be able to avoid an in-person visit.... 2. If you do need to make your pet an appointment, please do not be offended if your veterinarian asks you to stay in your car as staff meets you in the parking lot to take your pet inside. Many clinics are conducting exams/services this way and consulting owners over the phone while their pet is receiving care. This limits in-person interaction as much as possible. 3. Please make sure your pet is up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention or you have some in stock as fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes are not affected by Coronavirus. 4. Consider refilling your pet's essential medications and having a few week's supply on hand. Controlled substances only a 30dsy supply by law. In many instances, you can call your veterinarian's office to request a refill before you go to pick it up so that it is ready when you get there, limiting in-person interaction as much as necessary. 5. As far as we know, pets cannot get sick from COVID-19. They can serve as carriers to spread infection so practice social distancing for your pet as well as yourself. 6. Pets are wonderful stress relievers so make sure to give your pet lots of lovings if you are feeling stressed, or even if you aren't! They deserve it! 7. As always, please be kind to your veterinary staff. We are learning through these situations along with the rest of the world.
