What is going on here? On the hill near the hospital, we planted 6 Limber pines today. They are bluish green in color, fragrant and are native to the western U.S. which makes them tolerant of the arid rocky slopes where we planted them today. Why 6? Why here? These are 6 trees to remember the 6 essential hospital workers who lost their lives to Covid. We now have this amazing pine forest to remember these essential workers.
Digging holes. Digging holes. Prepping the land for the six Memorial pine trees to honor the six Brooklyn hospital workers that lost their lives during the Covid pandemic. And found this Pepsi can, circa 1970's. amazing what you find digging holes!

The Theater for the New City was set to perform "LIBERTY Or JUST US, A City Park Story this Saturday, August 15, instead they will be live streaming this play, which features Fort Greene Park on their website. Our park director, Dave Barker was a workshop consultant for this piece! LIBERTY OR JUST US is an oratorio that honors New York City parks for being sites of activism for many 20th and 21st century progressive causes, from the Triangle Shirtwaist protests to Occupy ...Wall Street. It revisits these movements through the eyes of a contemporary Parks Manager in songs featuring him and the multi-ethnic, multi-abled ensemble. The piece celebrates the idea that the USA can be a country of all its people, that moral aspiration can be reinvented to harness energy to overcome our problems, and that our vision can focus on dignity rather than power, equality rather than wealth and solidarity rather than competition. The piece is an oratorio written and directed by Crystal Field and composed by Joseph Vernon Banks. Its playing schedule will be Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM plus Friday, August 14 at 7:00 PM." You can find this performance at their website, theaterfoethenewcity.net See more
