Craig Brown’s colorful book about animals in the spring is the featured story of this week’s virtual toddler/preschool story time at the Fort Plain Free Library. In addition to making animal sounds, we will count animal babies in this final story time video. Normal story time programming will resume on Tuesday, May 4th. Because seating is limited, anyone interested in participating must register in advance. For information or to enroll, please call the library at 518-993-464...6. Illustrated by the author, In the Spring was published by Greenwillow Books, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. It was used with permission. We would like to thank all who read stories or contributed to our virtual story time program, including Harry Hoag Principal Lauren Haus Crisman and our student readers. We would also like to thank the publishers who granted us permission to read their stories in our video format during this unprecedented and trying year.

While supplies last, a distribution of foodstuffs, fresh fruits and vegetables, and other items will take place at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church on Friday, Dec. 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Those wishing to take part in the free distribution should arrive no earlier than that time as it causes crowding and traffic congestion. Please use the parking lot entrance near Beck Street. Adhering to these instructions allows the food to be distributed in a quick and timely fashion. ...Drivers should remain in their vehicles, walkers must practice social distancing, and all participants must wear masks. The distribution is possible because of the Catholic Charities Mobile Outreach Vehicle Extension (CCMOVE) in partnership with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Centro Civico, and St. Mary’s Healthcare of Amsterdam. To support CCMOVE, email ccrcda.org/give. Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church is located at 119 Reid St. in Fort Plain.

An unusual flock of sheep are the stars of this entertaining picture book by author Mem Fox and illustrator Judy Horacek. We find sheep of rainbow-hued colors as well as brave sheep, near sheep, far sheep, circus sheep, sun sheep, moon sheep, rain sheep, and others, but Where Is the Green Sheep? Help us locate the wooly camouflaged critter in this board book published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It was used with the permission of the publisher. Also featured in this week’s virtual story time program is a matching game featuring animal toys we can handle and move around. We also have a favorite action rhyme, Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." The chick and the duckling both hatch from eggs. They both have yellow feathers. They both have wings, and they are alike in many other ways. They also have differences, as the chick quickly learns in this amusing picture book written by Mirra Ginsburg, illustrated by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey, and published by Macmillan Publishing Company. The book is used with the permission of the publisher. Also featured in this week’s story time program is a counting game (Count Your Chickens!), a favorite chicken action rhyme, and a chicken strut. Please join us!
