Why, when, and how to use supersets in your training. Plus, 5 of my favorite combinations, as well as a few extra from the vault.
One of my favorite underutilized variations of the reverse hyper - single leg
This is an acceleration-dominant, lower body session I wrote for a hockey player. At this point, we were in an accumulation period.
Acceleration The picture below highlights professionals in Track and Field, Soccer, Hockey and Baseball during acceleration. Sports are a contest of movement. ...Inherent in all sports is the ability to accelerate and move your body through space. While each individual will move in their own unique way, there are certain biomechanical truths we must adhere to. There is however a difference between team sports vs. track in acceleration. In team sports, the faster the acceleration typically the better, as they spend most of their time in the acceleration zone. In track, the fastest change in acceleration can lead to max velocity being reached sooner, which is not ideal. Acceleration is a skill and can be improved. Some of my favorite ways to develop it include hill/sled sprints, horizontal jumps, medicine ball throws, developing starting/accelerating strength, increasing RFD. Lastly, improving max velocity can positively impact acceleration.
Here's a full body workout that only requires an exercise bike and a medball.
Anti-rotation Medball exercise that almost everyone fucks up. Arms up and control the rebound.
Safety Squat Bar + Single Leg Squat to a Box might be my new favorite unilateral exercise.
Online coaching after hip replacement. I’d call it rehab, but it’s just training... Lastly, people enjoy knowing why they are doing specific things, so I’ll often include notes that outline our goals and give the client hope/confidence. Not rocket science.
No matter your skill level, your GPP or General Physical Preparation must be developed and revisited (maintained) in order to maximize the training process.
