Society of Professional Investigators has a great guest today Thursday. Raise a glass, learn about #deceit with Steve Komorek of Conflict International - United States and earn 1 CPE in the process:
This Thursday: The first ever virtual SPI meeting via Zoom! SPI has been gathering every month in New York City since 1956 and we're missing everyone. The next ...best thing to an in-person dinner is a virtual gathering, with special guest Dr. Augustine Fou. A Cybersecurity expert and Art Fraud investigator, he will present on Digital Art Fraud Investigations A new form of fraud that has been dubbed the 21st Century's drug trade, and that, in dollar terms dwarfs many other forms of financial crime. May 21, 2020, 7:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada). Happy hour at 6:30 PM hosted by social director Charles-Eric Gordon (BYOB!) Free to members, friends from American Academy for Professional Law Enforcement NYC, Inc. (AAPLE) and NYCFE. Members have received an e-mail with the link and passwords. For more info and to request access, visit our website: https://spionline.info/meetinginfo.php?id=38&ts=1589836609
Great night at the book signing event. 12 of the 15 authors made it.
Come to the The Mysterious Bookshop this Thursday in NYC for sleuth-talk and a glass a wine in this magical bookstore! I'll be there with several other New York investigators and contributors to sign copies of The Art Of Investigation.
Honored to be one of the co-authors of this investigative manual released today!
"When an Online Romance Scam Gets Too Thrilling" is the title of my post on the Psychology Today Investigators Forum blog curated by Society Of Professional Inv...estigators. SPI members are invited to share their insights and observations upon working on cases that change them. Bruce Sackman published two articles, on Whistle Blowers and medical serial killers. More exciting articles to come to our fantastic group! My post involves a Canadian romance scam victim turned unwitting drug mule, who narrowly avoided life in prison and yet, couldn't resist going back to the online paramour at the source of his troubles. Working on this case gave me an intimate look inside the mindset of a victim and how thrilling an online romance can be. One way to protect ourselves against scams like that, it turns out, is... to stay busy, be open to others and lead an interesting life. https://www.psychologytoday.com//when-online-romance-scam-
Honored to be featured in The Guardian today!
How many galas are actually fun? The 63rd SPI gala had great honorees, guests from the NYPD, military personnel, various public investigative agencies and investigators from all corners of the private sector and yet, was very laid back and truly enjoyable with gorgeous views of the Manhattan skyline. Don't even mention the after-party on the stunning rooftop of Westlight in Williamsburg... ;)
Félicitations & Congratulations to Society of Professional Investigators president Bruce Sackman for his interview on medical serial killers (MSKs) that was pubished today on the website of the venerable French newsweekly Le Point. Assistant editor Nicolas Bastuck has been closely following the case of a French physician-anesthetist in Besançon, Frédéric Péchier, charged with killing nine patients and suspected of poisening dozen others. The article is in French, and behind ...a paywall for now. Asked about the case of Dr. Péchier's case, Bruce said: "The anesthesiologist in Besancon appears, based on what I've read in the media, to be a classic case of Munchhausen syndrome by proxy. There are so many similarities between this case and the other cases I have worked and written about. Hospital killing cases are tough to make. I would welcome the opportunity to assist in any way." https://www.lepoint.fr//tueurs-en-serie-a-l-hopital-un-phe
