Beginning June 1, the Library will offer curbside lending of materials to patrons! Staff will take requests for books, DVDs, and other circulating materials by phone, email, and Facebook Messenger. At this time, items for borrowing will only be available from the Olean Public Library; interlibrary loan from other Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System libraries will not begin until a later phase. Holds may not be placed on items in the online catalog at this time. Only current library card holders will be able to utilize the service; however, we are hoping to be able to begin issuing cards to new patrons soon. The Library has developed a safety plan to ensure the health and well-being of both patrons and staff, both in terms of the materials being circulated and the process of getting materials into the hands of patrons. Staff will wear masks and gloves in all transactions including handling of materials. Patrons will be required to wear masks when picking up materials. When returning materials, please utilize the outside book drop to minimize contact with staff. Prior to circulation, all materials will be disinfected and quarantined for a minimum of 48 hours. Curbside services will be offered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am until 2 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 pm until 7 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am until noon. To request materials, patrons can call the library at 716-372-0200; if staff are not available to take calls, patrons may leave a detailed message with their name, phone number, and titles of materials they are requesting. Requests may also be done over email ([email protected]), or can be sent over private messaging on the Library’s Facebook page. Once we receive the request, we will contact patrons to set up their curbside pickup appointment time. Additional curbside services will include faxing, copying, printing, and provision of tax forms. Due to New York State’s phased reopening plan, the Library building will remain closed to the public until we are notified it is safe to open. We hope to begin allowing limited access to the building in the upcoming weeks.
