Last week, Futures and Options partnered with Yvette Auyeung and Vanessa Campagna of Zurich Insurance as a part of the Externship Experiencea program that prepares New York City high school juniors and seniors for the workforce by offering access to learning opportunities that kick-start their professional journeys! This 16-hour career development program covers a range of work-readiness skills training along with industry-specific topics. The Zurich program model included... an overview of Zurich Insurance, speaker sessions with Zurich employee volunteers, focusing on sales, risk management, mentorship, apprenticeship, and insights into the professionals’ career journeys. Students also worked on a group project where they were able to step into the shoes of a Zurich consultant and were responsible for providing a customer (Mars) with risk management and insurance solutions for three potential areas of exposure. Each group was responsible for an area of exposure in property damage, cyber-attack, or product liability. Students received support from Zurich employee volunteer mentors each day, who were a great resource for their projects and their career development. On the final day, each group presented in front of a panel of judges which included a Mars representative. After all activities were complete, the students shared their insights about what they learned as they reflected upon their experience. It was truly a great Externship Experience! We extend our tremendous thanks to Zurich for collaborating with Futures and Options to create the customized model for this Externship Experience, as well as all the Zurich volunteers for sharing their time and talents with our students!
