The Friday kids chose their next unit of study: space! We learned about how stars are formed and their life cycle last week. This week we saw how the planets orbit the sun, and how moons orbit those planets with a gravity well! We also learned about black holes (thanks to a super strong magnet). Kids loved experimenting with different masses and seeing these concepts in action!
For the last few weeks I’ve been doing a survival unit with the Friday homeschooled kids! They’ve built sugar cube igloos, made trees that would thrive in a rain forest, learned to make fire and created a desert biome!
Sign up for the next 5 weeks of FWD is now open! Virtual and small in-person options available. Join us for projects like STEM pumpkin shooters, exploring the artist Yayoi Kusama, how igloos work, and making 'blood' in a bottle!
We had a beautiful day for learning about Westward Expansion! After talking about the Oregon Trail and studying the route and logistics, the kids made their own covered wagons!
The Friday FWD kids wanted to learn about the Black Death (a cheery topic these days) so after mapping the spread and making a timeline, they made plague masks. We also learned how quarantine most likely ended the 3 year devastation! #wearamask
Our classes look a bit different now, but today the kids (in person and virtual!) learned about indigenous art and creating paintings in the style of Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau. We also touched on art forgeries!
